Jumla Work Continues to Expand

I had planned to give a report on our work in Pakistan this month but I just can’t get away from the exciting things happening in Nepal.  The senior leader Bev and I work with in Nepal is a precious Nepali pastor who has been an absolute joy to us.  In June, Pastor KB and his wife Sushilla made a trip up to the new work we launched in the mountains last year and sent the following report.

The mountain pastors have been begging us to visit so we made a trip up to see them in June.  We have completed the construction of our first church building in Jumla and in fact it is the only place of worship in this entire region.  Many Hindu people from the area came to the dedication of the building and listened with great curiosity to the singing and the message.  Some of the Hindu women were weeping as they sat with us and heard the Word of God for the first time.  After the dedication we sat with some of the Hindu leaders for several hours discussing our faith in Christ.  One of the women told us, “I saw madam Sushilla’s face glowing while she was speaking and I could not keep my tears from falling.  I have always thought wrong about Christians but now I want to come to this church and read the Bible.”

Miraculous Favor

During this time of year there are strong winds that usually start about ten in the morning but on the day we held our building dedication the winds did not begin until late afternoon.  The villagers were very surprised and began saying that “the Christians are using some kind of big magic weapon.”  We had actually been afraid about the weather and had been praying urgently.  There had been no rain in Jumla for eight months and the people had been praying and offering sacrifices to their gods.  We prayed for rain and the very next day a heavy rain fell.  The people were so happy and amazed that God had so quickly answered our prayers.

Blind Chidren

We visited the Blind Hostel and spent a good bit of time with each of the 15 children you are helping us to support.  There was a formal welcome program, hosted by leaders from this area and we were treated like kings.  Students from the nearby government school attended and were clapping their hands and standing in line to welcome us.  We were given garlands of flowers and the blind children sang songs for us.  Sushilla spoke to the crowd and read from Psalms 145:8-19.  It was a very emotional message and many of the students and teachers were moved to tears.

Open Doors

Because of the investment that has been made to help these blind children, the people of this region have a high respect toward the church and the ministers of the Gospel.  We are thankful to the Lord for the doors the Lord has opened to our ministry through this work. – Pastor KB & Sushilla
